About Us
The CARE Coalition was founded in 2010 in response to growing concerns regarding prescription drug abuse among youth in Transylvania County. In 2014, the CARE Coalition received funding from the federal Office of the National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) under the Drug Free Communities (DFC) Program which enabled the coalition to expand its focus to include underage drinking and emerging drugs. The vision of the CARE Coalition is, “A Healthy, Vibrant Transylvania County, Free of Substance Abuse and Underage Drinking.” Our mission: “The C.A.R.E. Coalition is committed to the reduction of substance abuse and underage drinking in Transylvania County, North Carolina by convening interested community members in order to facilitate collaboration and coordinate efforts between coalition members and existing local resources.
The CARE Coalition consists of representatives from throughout the community, including these 12 key sectors:
